Spring decorations make me happy, but boy, can they get tacky fast. Bunnies and pastels and Easter eggs aren’t high on the Elegance Scale, you know? So it’s been a lofty, lifelong pursuit not really to find and make spring decoration that check two boxes: fresh AND fabulous.
This project fits the bill.
First, you’ll need to add “flocked bunny banks” to your garage sale watch list. These kitschy kids’ banks are pretty cute on their own, I think, but I wanted to make them even better. So, keep an eye out for any bunny bank you find. I bet you could catch some on ebay, too.
OK, with that, let’s get hoppin.’
Glitter Bunny Tutorial
What you’ll need: flocked bunny bank, your oldest jar of Mod Podge, foam brush, German glass-style glitter*
Prepare your work surface for glittering. For me, I like to work on a creased piece of paper, over newspaper. This way, I can corral all excess glitter back into the jar. Now, remove any kid money from bank wink. Working in sections and using your foam brush, brush Mod Podge onto bunny and sprinkle with glitter. I recommend an old jar of Mod Podge because I’m lazy, and like to work right from the jar . . . but with glitter, I get glitter into the Mod Podge this way, “contaminating the stock.” Continue in this manner, covering the bunny. Let dry and repeat for full coverage (which will get more glitter in your Mod Podge).
* I used Recollections brand “Glass Glitter” in “Vintage Silver” from the Michaels’ scrapbooking aisle. I went through about one 2.8 oz jar per bunny.
Love them Anne!
Thank you, Diane! Much cuter than the bunnies that eat my hostas 🙂
